An Analysis of the Types of Fillers Produced by English Learners in Speaking

Abstract
Penelitian ini menyelidiki jenis-jenis filler yang digunakan oleh pembelajar bahasa Inggris dalam tiga kategori fungsional berbicara: interaksi, transaksi, dan performansi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengatasi keterbatasan riset terkait bentuk dan fungsi spesifik filler di kalangan pembelajar bahasa Inggris, mengeksplorasi alasan di balik penggunaannya dalam ujaran, serta memberikan wawasan pedagogis untuk meningkatkan kefasihan berbicara. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa para pembelajar paling sering menggunakan filler saat berbicara dalam konteks transaksi, yang mereka anggap lebih formal, sehingga mendorong pola bicara yang lebih hati-hati dan penggunaan filler yang lebih banyak untuk menjaga kelancaran berbicara. Filler yang tidak leksikal, khususnya bunyi ‘ee’, digunakan secara signifikan lebih sering dibandingkan filler leksikal. Preferensi ini dipengaruhi oleh kemudahan dalam menghasilkan bunyi sederhana, tingkat kemahiran yang rendah, dan interferensi bahasa ibu. Studi ini menekankan pentingnya mengakui filler sebagai bagian alami dari bahasa lisan dan menyarankan bahwa pemahaman terhadap penggunaannya dapat membantu mengembangkan pendekatan pengajaran keterampilan berbicara yang lebih realistis dan mendukung.
